The Streak
Fifty-five straight games with a point. The one-year anniversary is known to many as the ‘paper anniversary,’ and the last calendar year has been a great one on paper for Easton Cowan ...

It’s a Streak that has captivated Knights fans. Easton Cowan, the Toronto Maple Leafs prospect and offensive leader in London, has secured at least one point in 55 straight regular season games — which now spans more than a full calendar year. His assists Wednesday night against Owen Sound tied him for an impressive Ontario Hockey League record that is more than four decades old.
Whether it is multi-point efforts or some late-game luck, Cowan has found a way to keep the streak alive — game in and game out. Twice, recently, Cowan scored last-minute goals after being held pointless through the majority of those contests. But he got the job done. And now he’s one game away from owning a unique record.
While thoroughly impressive, the forward has told Gameday London that The Streak isn’t something he’s overly focused on — even in situations when he’s still pointless in a game’s final moments.
“When you think about it too much, that’s when it doesn't happen for you,” Cowan said. “I’ve just been trying to go out there and play and take advantage of my chances.”
A game up in Sudbury on Nov. 24, 2023 was the last regular season contest where Cowan failed to register a point. He has 39 goals and 56 assists for 95 points in the 55 games since.
Thanks to his teammates, he says, chances to get on the scoresheet have come fairly frequently.
“Obviously, [The Streak] is pretty cool, but the guys I’m playing with are making it easy on me,” Cowan said. “We’re hot right now as a team, and we’re moving the puck well. They’re giving me a lot of chances.”
Niagara and Sudbury are the only teams Cowan hasn’t faced during the streak. He has 11 points against both Owen Sound and Saginaw, and he’s put up 10 points each against Kitchener and Windsor.
The consistency is what makes the run special. Even if he’s having an off night, Cowan has still found ways to contribute.
More than half of the games during his streak have been multi-point efforts, while he’s had a single point on 24 different occasions. He’s tallied two points 22 times and had nine three-point games.
The London Knights have a long list of alumni — and some elite talent has come through their locker room.
None have come close to what Cowan has accomplished with The Streak.
Patrick Kane’s 145 points in 2006-07 was one of the best single seasons in team history, but his longest point streak during that campaign was 19 games. Mitch Marner had a couple of lengthy streaks a decade later, but none longer than a 21-game stretch during the 2014-15 season.
It’s the longest streak in the OHL since Trevor Letwoski, playing for the Sarnia Sting, had points in 24 straight games during the 1996-97 season.
Doug Gilmour had a 55-game point streak with the Cornwall Royals in 1982-83, and although it still stands as the single season benchmark, Cowan can make history Friday night against Oshawa by registering a point in 56 consecutive regular season OHL games.
The Knights star had a goal and two assists against the Generals in two meetings last season, in addition to the 15 points he put up in the four-game OHL Championship Series.
Can Cowan make it 56? And on home ice? Tune in Friday night.
